Moira Five Station, local news

Hi All,

I am very pleased to say the fight that many people said we could not win has now had a major success for local democracy. We have managed to stop the closure of our beloved station, and the outcome of Scrutiny decision is that until they build and operate a new station in Donington our station will remain open.
As they do not even have any land or plans to purchase any land in Donington this maybe many many years away, if ever.
I cannot tell you how pleased and honoured both Annette and I are to have played a part in this victory, which really showed us how our villages can stick together and form a collective group of people who are not going to allow others to make decisions on our behalf without due thought for the rural communities.
Please can I personally thank Alison, Emma, Colin, Tony, Tony, Phil, Celia, Chris and many many more who worked so hard in this fight in achieving what many people around this county and up and down the country did not believe we could do.
To me this is only the start of the things to come, we will continue to build this great area into a prosperous and thriving community.
I would like to take this time to mention a band of people that had to sit at the back and watch this situation fearing that they may not have a job at the end of this and could not stand up and fight , these are the guys who go out and put there lives in danger without ever questioning there own well being, that's our FIRE MEN. We all support you guys and respect the way you are always there without ever asking for much, well we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Moira Fire Station

Hi All,

I too would like to thank all those who helped this fight to stop the closure of Moira Fire Station.
We are not over the line yet but we have made a spectacular effort in this fight and if all goes well tomorrow we may have just done what many thousands of people around the country have failed to do, that is take the powers that be on and show them what real democracy is all about.
Both Annette and I are proud to serve all the people of our area and this fight has restored the faith I have in local democracy, we must not think we have won this fight yet but we can all see now that if we work as a team there is no telling what we can achieve.
I will report back you all as soon as we know the results tomorrow, (keep everything crossed).

Many many thanks again.

Moira Fire Station

As you all may be aware we have a huge fight on our hands in keeping Moira Fire Station open, many things have been said like, its a done deal on it closing, we are wasting our time, no one listening. Well let me tell all of you WE ARE NOT WASTING OUR TIME and we can win this fight but we need as many people as possible showing these people we will not be treated like this and we will not let happen what happened to our police  stations happen to our fire station. The campaign so far is progressing very well and with the continued support of you all I am confident that we can win, please show your support in any small way you can by either showing the stickers in you home or cars or contacting me and I will direct you to one of our team who will distribute a small amount of work you can help with.

Local News

I must start with the very sad news that our local publican Graham Hart passed away suddenly, most of you will  remember him from the Railway. When we moved to moved to Moira from Austrey 5 years ago I found it difficult to find some place to play pool with my youngest son (Sean) he could play pool but some publicans who I will not mention thought he may damage the table, even though he had beaten the team captain on many occasions. I went in to see Dianne and Graham and asked if it was alright to play pool in there pub, Dianne said that's fine and Graham said as long as you can afford it then its OK. Graham along with Dianne always treated us very well even if we only had a coke and a game of pool, Graham was in my view the perfect Publican and it is a great loss to our area and to the trade which suffers enough without loosing people like Graham at such a young age. I am sure that I speak for all of our area when I say may he rest in peace and our thoughts will go out to Dianne and all of Grahams family.
